Dorothy Grace Jones Hollingsworth's Obituary
Dorothy Grace Jones Hollingsworth was born June 14, 1924 in Cochran, Georgia and departed July 18, 2019 in Tampa, Florida.
She was the youngest of eight children of John and Mary Jones. Dorothy grew up in Ruskin, Florida. She graduated from Grady Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia in 1946. She moved to Tampa, Florida and became the Nursing Supervisor in the Operating Room at St. Joseph's Hospital for about 6 years. In 1948 she married Henry Hollingsworth. They were together 48 years until his death. Next on her journey was the arrival of Carol, Don, and Mary. During this time she was also caring for her mother-in-law. Around 1963 she returned to nursing at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, FL. She was there for 20 years and served as the Night Shift Nursing Supervisor. She retired in 1985 and moved to Bushnell, FL.
Dorothy loved Jesus above all else. She also loved people. Her greatest legacy was that all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are serving the Lord. She served faithfully in church wherever she was. Dorothy loved to sing, mostly hymns. She was also a prayer warrior. Dorothy was a sweet, kind person with a big heart and a quirky sense of humor.
She is preceded in death by both parents, all her siblings, her husband, and her granddaughter, Tori Bennett. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Carol & Rahbin Bennett, Don Hollingsworth, and Mary & James McAuliffe; 16 Grandchildren, David & Heather Hollingsworth, Josh & Cassie Hollingsworth, Daniel & Gynafer Hollingsworth, Rachael McAuliffe, Hannah McAuliffe, Grace & Ken McFarland, Sarah & John Hendley, Holly & Jamal Wheeler, and Simon Bennett; 7 great-grandchildren, Ty, Talon, Taylor, Jett, Harper, Grayson, and Bennett Hollingsworth. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends whose lives she touched throughout time.
A visitation will be held from 10-11 AM Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Suncoast Cathedral, 2300 62nd Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL 33702 with a service to follow at 11 AM. Burial will be at Rousseau Pioneer Cemetery in Clearwater, Florida.
