Doris Killian's Obituary
Doris Lee Killian born Doris Lee Powers, 89, passed away early Monday morning in her sleep. She was born on December 14, 1929, in Richmond, Va., the fifth child born to Emmett and Viola Powers. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Emmett Jr., Emery, Avis, and Desta. Doris is survived by her sister, Mary.
As a young girl, Doris and her family moved to Florida, where she attended Hillsborough High School and the University of Tampa.
As a woman ahead of her time, she felt the women should not be only in the kitchen, but also in the boardroom. With tenacity, drive, and hard work, she created and built one of the largest woman owned businesses in Florida with Tam-Bay Realty.
Even more important to Doris was her family. Doris is survived by children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. She devoted her life to her family and her kindness, spirit, and love will continue to live on through them.
