Mr. Donald A. Tillman's Obituary
Tilman, Donald A. Jr., died peacefully on February 2, 2008. Don, a native of Tampa, was the only child of Albertus Lacey Tilman and Donald A. Tilman, Sr. He attended Hillsborough H.S.. At 17, he volunteered for the Navy and served on the aircraft carrier, USS Admiralty Islands, during the last years of World War II. Upon return to Tampa, he was employed by Tampa Electric Company, from which he retired after 38 years. He was a devoted husband to Emily Reese Tilman, his wife of 47 years, and was her sole caretaker in the last years of her life. Together they raised three children. After her passing, he continued his dedication to his family, developed new friendships, and sought new ways to serve others. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and through a friend, was guided to care for and service migrant workers. To Donald, Jesus was his Lord and Savior, a devout Catholic, over the years his membership included the Congregations of Most Holy Redeemer (Tampa), St. Paul (Tampa), and St. Cecelia (Clearwater). Donald Tilman Jr. is survived by his 3 children: Donna T. Herrera and her husband Philip, Deborah A. Vomero and her husband John, and Donald A. Tilman III (Andy) and his wife Melody, his wife's brother Bryan Reese and his wife Marlene, Twelve grandchildren, a great granddaughter, a niece and nephew. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Catholic Church, 12708 N. Dale Mabry, Tampa. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in his name to the National Farmworker Ministry or a charity of choice.
