Mrs. Dolores Menendez (Lolita) Fernandez's Obituary
FERNANDEZ, Dolores Menendez (Lolita) 103, a native of Tampa, born February 23, 1911, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, December 12, 2014. Lolita was predeceased in death by her husband Manuel “Manolito” Fernandez, her parents, Amadora de la Llana and Jose Menendez, brothers Amador and Joe A. Menendez and sister, Josefina Fernandez. She is survived by her children, Eugene (Doris) Fernandez and Elsa (E.J.) Salcines; her grandchildren Mark (Trudie) Fernandez, Ellen (Jim ) Leahy, Celeste (Nelson) Castellano, Eric Fernandez all of Tampa and Emily (Ron) Rogers of San Antonio, Texas; her great grandchildren Kevin and Kristen Leahy, Grace, Jamie and Eden Fernandez, Tonnar, Rebecca and Ella Castellano and E.J. Fernandez; nephews Joseph (Irma) Fernandez and Gilbert (Isaura) Fernandez; her great nephews Kevin Fernandez, Brian (Lisette) Fernandez and great niece Paula (Bill) Lutes and several great great nephews and nieces.
Lolita was an accomplished cigarmaker starting to work at age 19 and retiring when she was 67 years old. She was an accomplished seamstress sewing into her 90s. She leaves her family many crocheted blankets, afghans, bedspreads, tablecloths and Christmas decorations to treasure as family heirlooms. The family would like to thank her dedicated and loving caretakers Dora Jimenez and Olga Rodriguez as well as her dedicated nurse Laniece McClain for their love and support. A funeral Mass will be held at 1pm on Saturday, December 20 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior to the Mass. Entombment will be at Centro Asturiano Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Multiple Sclerosis Center, USF Department of Neurology, 12901 Bruce B Downs Blvd., MDC55, Tampa, FL 33612.
