Delia Louisa DeCaprio's Obituary
Delia Louisa Faedo DeCaprio passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023, at home surrounded by her family, she was 88 years old. She is survived by her three children, Lucy, Anthony and wife Ninia, and Delia Gadson-Yarbrough; grandchildren Anthony Dominick DeCaprio and wife Marvelyn, Dante’ Gadson-Yarbrough, Connor Gadson-Yarbrough, and Zeifern DeCaprio, great granddaughter Tyshia, sister Loretta Quinones, niece Kimberly Quinones Ross and husband Dave Ross, nephew Joseph Quinones, and great nieces Bailey and Sara Quinones.
Delia was born and raised in Tampa, Florida and was a proud graduate of Jefferson High School, class of 1953. She served on Tampa’s Latin Fiesta Court after high school and traveled to Cuba and Mexico. She met her husband of 49 years, Anthony DeCaprio, while he was stationed at MacDill Airforce Base and they married in 1956.They were the proud owners of DeCaprio Caterers Hall and Villa in Drew Park where they catered thousands of weddings, parties, and hosted a weekly singles dance on Wednesday nights. She also worked full time with her parents Delia and Joe Faedo and sister Loretta and brother-in-law Ralph Quinones, and aunt Olga Prado at Joe Faedo’s Bakery which opened in 1950, on Armenia Avenue. Faedo’s Bakery was open for over fifty years.
Delia was known for her beautiful cake decorating and wedding cake designs, which were her specialty. She also served as a Notary and married many couples over the years. Delia was a talented artist and painted a variety of oil paintings which were beautifully displayed at the Catering Halls. She learned how to play the piano as a child in Ybor City and later played the organ. Delia was a Catholic and attended St. Joseph’s and St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She was devoted to Saint Jude and held an annual feast of St. Jude mass every October 28th for many years at DeCaprio’s Hall in partnership with Monsignor Higgins.
Delia began working for Boza Roel funeral home soon after the passing of her husband, where she found a calling to comfort and console families dealing with the loss of a loved one. She valued relationships and was treasured by her extended family and friends. She was very close to all her aunts, uncles, and family members from the Garcia, Faedo, and LaSpino sides of her family. Her work ethic was second to none and she officially retired at the end of 2017 with the onset of her battle with Dementia. The family would like to send their sincere thanks to Life Path Hospice, Burgundy Team, for their outstanding care and attention.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Monday, July 17 at Boza Roel Funeral Home, 4730 N. Armenia Avenue. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM at the funeral home chapel. Internment will follow in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. Pall bearers include Anthony Dominick DeCaprio, Connor and Dante’ Gadson-Yarbrough, Joseph Quinones, Oscar and Lawrence Prado, and David Watkins.
