Debra G. Barrionuevo's Obituary
Debra Gomez Barrionuevo
February 08, 1956 – October 25, 2024
Barrionuevo, Debra (Gomez) 68, of Tampa, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Hospital on Friday, October 25, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Debra was born on February 8, 1956, in Ybor City, she is preceded in death by her parents Eberto (Charlie) Gomez and Helen Gomez; brother Eberto (Paco) Gomez. She is survived by her loving son Mario Barrionuevo and daughter-in-law Vickie Barrionuevo, sister Judith Leon (Elizabeth “Liz” Kuhli), brother Eddie (Cindy) Leon; and nephews Herbie Gomez Jr., Jonathan (Courtney) Leon, Michah (Alyssa) Leon; and niece Melissa Leon along with many loving cousins, extended family and friends.
Debra was born and raised in Ybor City and later moved to West Tampa. Debra’s long-time career in banking started at Peoples Bank as Head Teller. Debra was a quick learner and took courses as needed to move from Head Teller to Branch Manager while at Manufacturers Bank and then Operations Manager. She worked at various other banks throughout her career and later decided to move into the healthcare practice.
Debra’s pride and joy was her son Mario, and no sacrifice was too big for her family. She retired early to care for her mother Helen and brother Paco. She assumed their care and wanted to make sure they were both adequately cared for. Debra opened her house, her heart and her family to all who needed her. She was there with a listening ear, coffee, a drink or just in silence. The life-long friendships are a testament of the person she was.
Debra was a strong beautiful woman who fought till the very end. All who met her felt the love, warmth and kindness in her laugh. She will be greatly missed by all who have had the pleasure of knowing her.
Till we meet again, we love you and will cherish all the memories we shared.
The Family would like to express a special THANK YOU to the ICU Nurses at St. Joseph Hospital Pyper, Jonathan R, Emma and Katilyn for the care and their compassion and support.
