Mr. Daniel J. Serpentelli ll's Obituary
SERPENTELLI, Daniel J. II, of Tampa, FL passed away March 22, 2010. He was born on March 20, 1926 and was raised in Belleville, NJ. He was the first born son of Daniel and Gunstina. His birth mother passed and was raised by second mother Louise. He was proud to have served three years in the US Army during WWII earning an honorable discharge at war' s end. He was employed as a lithographer by Sweeney Litho Co. for many years before moving to Toms River, NJ where he was then employed by Ocean County Observer newspaper. He relocated to Tampa in 2001. He was an avid bicyclist and logged many thousands of miles during his lifetime. He was proud to have ridden two years in the Muscular Dystrophy Benefit 150 mile weekend bicycle ride and earned over $1000.00 during one of these events. While living in Belleville, NJ, he served as Grand Knight for Council #835. During his tenure, he held numerous charitable events for the Sons of Italy Orphanage, his pet charity at the time. He was proud to have provided volunteer work for 21 plus organizations for exceptional adults in Toms River, NJ. He started a walking club for them and awarded certificates when they reached ten miles. Once moving to Florida he volunteered with his wife Lucy at Citrus Park Elementary School assisting in 5th grade classroom while also giving one day a week at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital to rock babies. He was happy to give of his time and was very much loved by the children and staff alike. Mr. Serpentelli would pray the Rosary twice daily and devote his prayers to his family, friends and anyone in need. After retiring from his biking due to his health, he would jog in the pool at his home complex. During this daily exercise, he would let people know that while his lips were moving he was praying the Rosary for those in need. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he also gave of his time, a member of Sons of Italy Mona Lisa Lodge # 2699 and the Italian Club of Tampa in Ybor City. He is predeceased by his son, John, sisters, Teresa Knab and Jane Cacero and brother, Robert Serpentelli. He is survived by his wife Lucy, son, Daniel III and wife Stephanie, grandchildren, Luke and Justina, sisters, Louise Di Minno, Natalie Palmer, Betty Gabe and brother, Hon. Eugene D. Serpentelli. He would like to be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10AM on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 15520 North Blvd. Tampa, FL.
