Daniel Eugene Ontengco Jr's Obituary
Daniel Eugene Ontengco, 43, was called to Heaven Friday afternoon, April 14th, 2017. Dan was a loving and proud husband and father. He was survived by his wife, Andrea, and four children, Amanda (5), Dylan (6), Matthew (19), and Nicholas (17). Dan was a poet, writer, novelist, and 20 year social worker. Dan obtained his Bachelor degree in 1995 and later earned his Master’s degree at the University of South Florida in 2000.
Over the years Dan has had many accomplishments from receiving awards for the best Supervisor and best Case Manager of the year in social work, on more than one occasion to publishing several poetry books and a novel. Dan’s literary works include a novel, The History of Man’s Future, and 4 poetry books, Portrait of a View, The Heresy of Hearsay, The Land of Green Eyes, and Falling from One Story (which also included a short story Way Over the Ridge). Of course, if asked which accomplishment meant the most to him he would definitely answer his children. Everything Dan did in his life was for others and never once did he ask for even the smallest of things in return. Dan was the most kind and giving individual.
Dan had the most electrifying and captivating personality which everyone loved, and his sense of humor never wavered. He would always look at the silver lining in every single situation, and he is a true angel that even after he is gone is still helping others. Dan was able to donate his corneas to two different individuals who are blind that will now have the gift of sight because of Dan’s pure selflessness. Dan will be truly missed, never forgotten, and always … always loved.
One of Dan’s poems that only he could say so well:
33
I know He’s real and I completely believe.
Now that “I am” has shown me thirty three.
Hard times came and the end appeared near.
But I now feel better thanks to faith and prayer.
At the field one day after a toe stub of the runner.
We went to see the expert not for me but for another.
And as we waited by I asked and he took a look.
And he showed me the first steps that I then took.
Coincidences are footprints and proof of He.
And I know He’s real and I completely believe.
And I thank him now for everything he’s done.
For without his help I could neither be father or son.
Many days calling with closed eyes on my knees.
He heard my calls and my solemn pleas.
Now I thank him for every single day.
Thank you “I am” for allowing me to stay.
At any moment one’s life can suddenly change.
But being aware of that always should not be so strange.
For it helps you appreciate all that you have from above.
And reminds you that in this beautiful life every day is love.
