Benicio Benny Martinez's Obituary
Benicio Benny Martinez passed away October 21,2019, Tampa. He is survived by his wife, Norma of 62 yrs;daughters, Brenda Ortelli (Paul), Terri Pijuan (Francisco); as well as grandchildren, Michael Martinez, Brittney Acerra, Vincent Acerra Jr, Garrett Sharpless (Ana).
He was a life long resident of Tampa. Benicio graduated from Thomas Jefferson High, served 12 yrs in the National Guard, and was Employed through Hillsborough County School Board where he worked for 33 yrs as an Instructional Supervisor. During his employment he furthered his education at HCC receiving an AA in Education, a BA in Social Studies Bachelor of Arts and MA in Education at University of Tampa with post grad of Administration & Supervision at University of South Florida. During his tenure Benicio was a Member of "Omicron Delta Kappa Society" and "PHI THETA KAPPA" National Honor Fraternity. He also served as Secretary/Treasure to The Arts Council of Hillsborough County and was on the board of directors to Florida Association of School Administrators.
After retirement, Benicio worked 10 yrs for Hillsborough County Health Dept., served as a Member of a non-profit organization for youth and held an officer position with Optimist Club of NW Tampa and club member of Optimist Club of West Tampa. His admiration and passion for youth started the first girls softball league at West Tampa Little League. He served as league President, coach, and umpire. He was always surrounded by loving family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
