Dr. Anthony Joseph Girgenti's Obituary
GIRGENTI, Dr. Anthony J., 76, passed this earth into our Lord’s heavenly home on Oct. 18, 2014. He was a lifelong native of Tampa, earned a PhD in Biochemistry from USF and was certified by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. “Dr. G” as he was affectionately called was the Clinical Chemist at St. Joseph’s Hospital Laboratory for 35 years where he was loved and respected by co-workers. His passion for quality was surpassed only by his great kindness to all, his generosity and humor. He was a devout Catholic from youth spent at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and school. He was a parishioner of St. Lawrence Church. He was a happy, fulfilled man and husband, a proud, devoted father and grandfather. Family was the center of his life. He was a brilliant yet unpretentious, humble man. He taught us how to live and how to die. He was predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Concettina Girgenti. He is survived by Joyce, his loving wife of 37 years, their two sons Dr. Gregory (Jaime) Girgenti and Joseph (Katherine) Girgenti; by four grandchildren, Vincent, Sofia, Cecilia and Gregory; Goddaughter, Annette Villarosa, two Godsons, Brian Billingham and Anthony Sierra; by many loving cousins; by mother-in-law Mary Rossano, sister-in-law June (Herb) Hill, brother-in-law Philip Rossano and many nieces and nephews; a cousin Maria Messina and extended family in Sicily. Pallbearers are: Gene Perez, Carl Villarosa, Sr., Oscar Sierra, Anthony Sierra, Brian Billingham, James Oliveria, John Oliveria, David Perez, Carl Villarosa, Jr. and Victor Castellano. A Funeral Mass for the repose of Dr. G’s soul will be celebrated at 11 AM on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 5225 N. Himes Ave., Tampa, FL. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to Mass. The family will accept flowers or contributions may be made to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
