Angel Rañon's Obituary
Angel Rañon, 95, of Tampa, died Saturday, July 18, 2015. Angel was born in La Devesa, Lugo, Spain, to Domingo Rañon and Ramona Fernandez. He was preceded in death by his wife Eusebia, his brother Jose, and his parents. He is survived by his brother John F. Rañon and his wife Dalia; his sister-in-law Rose Marie; his son John and his wife Audrie, his daughter Maria Howell and her husband Joe, his daughter Alicia Murphy and her husband Allen; his son Carlos and his wife Susan; his grandchildren Brian Howell and his wife Mindy, Cristina Howell, Sara Macferran and her husband Chadwick, Michael and David Rañon, Lisa and Andrew Rañon, and Alexander Murphy; great grandchildren Hazel and Chloe Howell; his nieces and nephews Sandra Colelli, Joe Rañon, Jr. Bobby Rañon, and Diana Fontana and their spouses; and many cousins in Tampa and Spain. Angel arrived in Tampa on January 11, 1931, with his mother and brother Juan, joining his father who had arrived a decade earlier. Later, Angel’s immediate family was made complete with the birth of his brother Jose. Angel was educated in the public schools of Tampa and worked for many years in the family’s construction company Rañon & Jimenez. He was very active in the community and was a member of the Centro Español for 75 years. Angel was proud of his Spanish heritage and proud to be a Tampeño for over 80 years. A man of many personal accomplishments and interests, he was a loyal, generous, kind, humble, and trusted friend. The family wishes to thank Jose Ramon Oural for his friendship through the years and especially following the death of Angel’s wife Eusebia. The family also thanks his doctors, especially his Godson, Norman Castellano, and the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital. Pallbearers include Brian Howell, Michael Rañon, David Rañon, Andrew Rañon, Alex Murphy, Robert Rañon, Joe Rañon, Jr. Juan Salgado and Froilan Salgado. Honorary pallbearers include Joe Howell, Allen Murphy, Angel, Jose, Ramon and Alberto Docobo, Frank Colelli, Nicholas Colelli, Joseph Rañon, Norman Z. and Norman J. Castellano, Larry O’Connor, Jose Ramon Oural, Samuel H. Murphy, Lawrence J. Fontana III, and the employees of Rañon, Inc. The family will receive friends Wednesday Evening, July 22, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Boza & Roel Funeral Home, 4730 N. Armenia Avenue. Angel will be buried next to his beloved Eusebia and near his parents at the Centro Español Cemetery on 21st Avenue on Thursday in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Centro Español de Tampa, Inc. Cemetery Endowment Fund (P.O. Box 4725, Tampa, Florida, 33677) or the charity of choice.
