Dear Daddy,
This Thanksgiving was very difficult without you. The one thing I missed was your long speeches before anyone could eat the feast. As we all listened to you and notice the food may cool down. The family would begin to chant....Get to the point! Until everyone would start laughing. Well, I would give anything just to hear your speech one more time.
When I was a child, I remember you taught me how to send a message to my flying kite. So on Thanksgiving Day, I sent you a message in a simular way. I launched 3 helium balloons with a message to you. Now, I don't know what is on the other side or even if you can receive my message or not, but it was worth a try. The message read, I love you and miss you very much always.
your daughter Gigi
Dear Daddy,
It has been a month today since you left us behind. I am sure you are doing wonderful with our Lord! Just the same, I miss you so very much. I miss holding your hand, talking with you, and sharing our love to one another. I miss the fact that you love red velvet cake and never tried it until recently. But you just loved anything sweet! There is not one day that goes by that you are in my thoughts. I will ALWAYS love you and will keep your love in my heart.
Abelardo stood as a guiding light to many of us. His commitment to Cuba and its independence from the corporate world and his optimism for the future of his country and the example it constitutes for Latin America and the world, was encouraging and enlightening.
Hasta Luego Compañero Abelardo
Nos haras mucha falta!
We will miss you!
Alvaro
Oh! Yes Dad was a prankster sometimes and sometimes you try to get him back, but he always wins.
I'll never forget, one night my x and I were talking about how Dad received "Garden of the Month" at Charleston Corners.
Dad was very meticulous with his yard. You never saw a weed anywhere. Rather than put chemicals down, he would pull them out one by one. He said, it was better to keep on top of your yard by just walking the yard and pull here and there. Who has the Time!
Well, my x and I also lived in Charleston Corners at that time and decided to play a joke on Dad. So that evening around 11:30 pm we drove by the house, took his"Garden of the Month" sign and placed in our yard which was not worthy of the sign.
The next morning we forgot all about it and while I was making breakfast, I looked out the window and did not see a sign and it hit me that Dad knew it was us and took his sign back while we were sleeping in.
May this candle light your way into your new life.
With all my love, Gigi
I will always cherish each moment we had in this life. You are my rock and now my Angel guarding me through my life. I look forward to seeing you in my dreams and will patiently wait to when we meet again. I love you daddy and may God keep you. Your daughter GiGi
Dad was a prankster sometimes. Right after his Grand-daughters graduation from Law school, Al started using a speed-skate, the kind with a handle and skate board. Yes he was in his eighties. Well, sometime before the following Christmas Dad called my cell and told me I had to leave work to come see his "demonstration of skating". He said that Wal-Mart was setting up a display for the holidays and he was asked to be a person to show off the skateboard. So, I left work thinking this is a big deal that the store was using him to show kids how to use this toy.
When I arrived, I went straight to a manager and asked where the skateboard demonstration was. Well he looked at me like I was nuts at first, then said..
"I think your Dad has played a trick on you, there is no demonstration and we couldn't let a man that age in the store on a skate board anyway.
